A quiet room

An unbuilt concept study using three reference photographs of the same interior by Ksenia Chernaya. The photographed space was not designed by Thera.

A broad moulded opening frames a dark sofa, glass table, pale seating and a sculpture, with an open expanse of patterned floor in the foreground.

The opening holds the room in view.

The seating sits beyond a generous foreground. This study takes that relationship as a starting point: a place to settle, with space left clear around it.

An oblique view through the same opening reveals a cabinet beneath coloured artwork, a tubular chair and the sofa arranged around a glass table.

A little to the side.

The cabinet and artwork come into view. The open frame of the chair makes the relationship between the side wall and the seating easier to read.

Closer, the surfaces differ.

The relief catches light unevenly; the tabletop reflects it. Beside them, the upholstery reads softly. The concept would keep these differences in view, rather than make every surface alike.
